We envisage the successful candidate being based in Gdansk, Poland. Other locations within Poland will also be considered.

Reuters is seeking a talented Software Development Engineer to join a small, global team of high performers. You'll primarily work on AWS-hosted services supporting our web-based applications. As a Software Development Engineer, you'll be key to our products' architecture and will document, maintain and build modular, scalable, secure, performant, well tested services whilst mentoring your peers to do the same. 
 
The Reuters Technology engineering team develops business-critical applications and services for the Reuters news organization. We provide publishers and broadcasters with news text, graphics, photos, audio, and video over both internet and satellite, while also providing web-scale hosted content solutions to digital publishers.
 
We are a supportive, close-knit team following Agile Scrum methodologies and use modern common and boutique technologies like Python, AWS, Serverless, Docker, Jenkins, Git, JavaScript, TypeScript, Clojure(Script), Re-frame, and Reagent/React.
About the Role
As a Software Development Engineer at Reuters, you will:
  • Deliver end-to-end technical solutions for Reuters.com, keeping both our audience, product team and our journalists in mind when developing new solutions for our news streams.
  • Collaborate with your colleagues to ensure that Reuters.com works consistently across a variety of displays (such as desktop and mobile).
  • Work on AWS-hosted services, following Agile Scrum methodologies.
  • Explain sometimes complex concepts to others to further ideas and initiatives.
  • Have the opportunity to learn new skillsets and methodologies by working and collaborating with experienced colleages.
  • Play a crucial role in how millions of people consume news on a daily basis.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Software Development Engineer at Reuters, if you:
  • Have demonstrable experience of developing Java, with some exposure to building and maintaining web services in AWS.
  • Are a great communicator, fluent in both English and Polish.
  • Have a collaborative work ethic, able to work both independently and within a wider, friendly team.
  • Are comfortable stating your opinion in front of others and are able to discuss sometimes complex technical systems with business stakeholders that do not necessarily have a technical background.
  • Have the desire to learn new skills and learn unfamiliar technology.
  • Have an interest in working for a leading global news agency.
